Engel 501 Pencil Hardness Tester
The pencil hardness test, also known as the "Wolff Wilborn" experiment, evaluates the hardness of coatings using graphite pencils with different hardness values.
The design of the Engel 501 ensures that the cylindrical pencil lead can maintain a constant 45 ° angle and withstand a force of 7.5N (1.68lbF).
The pencil lead has been prepared in advance using a special pencil sharpener and sandpaper, and placed into the Engel 501 mainframe on a smooth, flat surface. The pencil with the smallest hardness value that can leave marks on the coating can determine the hardness level of the coating.
